Illness Anxiety Disorder, previously known as hypochondriasis, is characterized by excessive worry about having or developing a serious medical illness, despite having no or only mild symptoms. People with this condition frequently check their bodies for signs of illness, seek repeated medical reassurance, or avoid medical care entirely due to fear. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is the primary treatment.
