Wabharm Foundation

WABHARM is a non-profit social enterprise organisation, committed to providing evidence based behavioural health, substance misuse prevention, treatment intervention and recovery management to individuals, their families and the community at large, with the ultimate purpose of increasing awareness of various psychoactive drugs and alcohol.

We are a part / affiliate of the Ethnic Minority Behavioural Health Addiction & Recovery Management (EMBHARM) Foundation UK.

We are proud to pioneer the much needed revolutionary change in Addiction treatment throughout the West African Sub-region, through the provision of our Open Access centre for people with a problematic substance abuse / dependency and the provision of an integrated treatment support for people with co-occurring disorder (Substance misuse & mental illness).

Our service delivery ethos is grounded on the Recovery Model of Addiction and Mental Health treatment with strong emphasis on supporting individual re-integration through personal, social, spiritual and community recovery.

We acknowledge the unique challenges posed by the soci-economic deprivation of West African’s and the risk of  developing substance abuse / dependency & mental illness due to pathetic poverty,  high unemployment, high level of illiteracy, lack of basic healthcare, homelessness, burden of disease, lack basic social amenities and hunger.

We are committed to collaborating with all relevant stakeholders national and international in caring for the most vulnerable in our society by empowering them through education, skills development, health & well-being and promoting self-esteem.

We aim to actively work with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), West Africa Commission on Drugs, Governments and Statutory organisations of each member States, Local and International NGO’s in;

  • Developing a regional and national core data set to improve collection and collation of relevant data to highlight the scope of drug addiction
  • Actively contribute towards the development of a National Drug & Alcohol policy for each of the 16 member countries towards a credible regional drug policy for the ECOWAS sub-region
  • Provide leadership in advocacy and anti-stigma campaign in relation to addiction and mental health
  • Provide leadership in Workforce development, through evidence based training, workshop programmes and the delivery of internationally accredited training courses in addiction and recovery management
  • Promote and encourage evidence based treatment intervention throughout the 16 West African countries.
